With the U.S having an overwhelming influence on African Lives, those on the continent and in the diaspora especially through its imperialist and exploitative policies, the African people have no option but to be involved in US politics.
Limiting the misuse of power being the most talked about and put forward reason for presidential terms limits world over, it should be said that this application of leadership reform should not be confined to Presidential positions but be further extended to the United States congress.
This argument is based on the fact that the US congress is an institution that has misused its power more than any other public institution internally through sanitized corruption (Insider Trading) within the United States itself and, devastatingly on the international stage where it has actively influenced the destructions of nations in; Vietnam, Somalia, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan Palestine etc., nations where innocent millions of lives have been killed and thousands of American soldiers themselves sent early to their graves and some left with clutches, depression and suicide within the United States itself.
The Other irony of the United States Congress is the age, the old men and women in that house are too many, they are causing a lot of problems around the world because they live in a world far removed from the one majority of the global citizens including many young Americans want to live in. This problem can only be relieved by a limited 2 terms for members of congress. The US political system therefore needs urgent reforms, more than any other institution on planet earth. With the current average age of members of the US congress being 64 years, this is not only dangerous to majority of the United States population whose median age is 38.9 but also for the African Continent’s population whose median age is 19.2, there will always be a huge difference in mentality, suffice it to say that for the African youth, the culture is far removed from that of the west however much they have attempted to socialize the African people, just as other non-western world via Hollywood.
It is so despicable that people like former U.S president Barack Hussein Obama goes around the world treating other people’s political systems as if they are technical problems to be fixed in a single swoop while claiming that the problems and political system in the United States need a lot of work and time to be changed slowly. Our Argument is that the former president should start from fixing the pathetic and long overdue problems and institutions causing problems not only for the United States citizens, corruption and so on, but also, which are destroying our entire planet.
The reforms required in the United States Congress are technical and urgent, therefore they should be attended to in the same spirit.
For Africa doesn’t need the United States’ patronage in building up its institutions, the generation of Africans arising today has learnt the hard way, that western advise has not worked for us since independence, we have therefore resolved that our institutions will be built on the ideas of our forefathers and foremothers who fought and struggled to free this continent while the United States was against them in support of colonialists, practicing apartheid Jim crow segregation within and propping up Apartheid regimes without in Africa.
The current call is to all African Intellectuals and peoples globally to Marshall-up all the support that can be got in support of Pan-African Organizations and Institutions like the ACUP – African Continental Unity Party as well as the AAPRP – All-African People’s revolutionary Party.
