If a so-called democratic government cannot build a modest $12 million factory to refine its tomatoes, or champion the processing of its own resources for the benefit of its people, then we must face the truth: this is not democracy. Instead, it is something else disguised as democracy, a hollow system of governance that serves no real purpose for its citizens.
If a democratically elected government’s primary role is to borrow money only to import what it already possesses, then such a government is more harmful than helpful. Should it take a military government to stop the borrowing, end the hunger, and restore functionality, then the so-called democratic regime is worse than any military rule. Such levels of incompetence and failure must not be defended, and at all costs, this false democracy must be dismantled.
The purpose of democracy is not simply to vote, but to vote for the effective delivery of services. If the elected fail to deliver on expectations, then what we are practicing ceases to be democracy. It is not enough to merely cast a ballot; if democracy stops there, it loses its true meaning. In Africa, democracy has lost all meaning. We cannot continue to accept a system that delivers nothing, treating it like a religious sect. Governance is about delivering tangible, unquestionable results. If governments fail to do so, as most African governments have, then they should be dismantled and overthrown because they no longer even resemble democracies.
Democracy cannot stop at the ballot box, nor can it be an intellectual exercise used by a corrupt elite to maintain power. This elite has turned democracy into a shield, wielding it every time they are questioned about their failure to transform Africa’s resources into prosperity.
This fake democracy must be removed.
The coups in the Sahel, beyond being military takeovers, expose a deeper moral failure—a decayed, deceptive, and corrupt African political elite. They expose the greed of the global system, which feeds off Africa’s resources while impoverishing its people, all under the guise of democracy.
This deception must be dismantled and overthrown.
