A closer look at the model of trains Ghana is acquiring from Poland as published on this platform and as announced by the deputy minister of railways on her social media platform tells us that the trains are regional Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) vehicles.

The RegioFox Trains in Czech Republic

They are the RegioFox 847 Series vehicles with a capacity of 115 passengers per vehicle and speeds of up to 120 Km/hr. (they can cover a distance of 120 km every single hour) according to the website of one of the users of these vehicles from Czech Republic who has acquired similar vehicles already under testing. Another Youtuber has published a version video of the same version of train as seen in the attached link below:

The vehicles are modern and promise efficiency and a power output of 750 KW, they can be integrated with the most modern signaling systems including ETCS (European Train Control System). According to one of our experts Ing. Gonza from Black star Rail Limited based in East Legon, a company which is already working on signalling systems with clients from Europe and across the world, this is the latest Signalling system anyone can have.

Whether Ghana will adopt the same signalling system on the Tema to Mpakadan where the trains are hoped to operate, a system known to be highly safe hence protecting both Passengers and the new trains themselves from collision, it remains to be answered by the Ghana ministry of Railways and our experts from Blackstar Rail after further consultations by this Platform.

The trains are fully air conditioned with very comfortable seats specially designed to enhance passenger experience. Within these trains, passengers can utilize electrical sockets, which also feature USB ports for phone charging, they can stay connected to WIFI and receive information from the inbuilt state-of-the-art passenger information system (PIS). The trains are equipped with a retractable platform making it easy for passengers to board without difficulty from the lower floor even for Wheelchairs of Physically challenged citizens.

Another special feature of these trains is that they don’t have to run only on diesel and can also be powered by HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) biofuel from plants. The power units are also equipped with low-emission Rolls-Royce engines that meet Stage five emission limits.

The ACUP-GH (African Continental Unity Party Movement Ghana) congratulates the Ghanaian people for these acquiring these 2-in-one train units but cautions that; emphasis should be placed on manufacturing this kind of equipment within the African Continent. This would help us as Africans to have a more meaningful celebration of achievement after using our own bauxite, lithium and other materials to manufacture these trains in Africa hence saving jobs and enhancing our pride as a people. This is what the ACUP was founded to help the Continent to accomplish within our generation.
